Acrylic on Paper

This image is the one I carry whenever I nostalgically recall my childhood. I can feel the heat of the sun on my face, smell the scent of wild flowers, see clouds of insects filling the air,  hear the care free laughter of friends & family and pollinating bees buzzing around, evoking days that seemed to go on forever.

The scene would most likely be reminiscent of playing and exploring alongside the banks of the river Thames as it skirts around Chiswick in West London. The area of Duke’s Meadows a far less developed place than it is today, that and the other recreational grounds and parks of London W4, Kew and Richmond.

What strikes me now is that I sense the sounds, smells and feelings of those days but not the people, other than to hear them. They’re in my mind but not in this image.

This is the first of a series, mostly of showing unbroken sun beating down and illuminating the scenery, blinding light from a clear blue sky reflecting from every surface.

The painting is mixed media of acrylic paint dotted on hot pressed paper (A4), dabbed with inks and finished with a daubed golden acrylic sun and fixed with superfine gloss varnish.
